Applying for an account:

If you have a username and password for the membership system, the you already have a 1st-alcester.org.uk email account. Your email address would be:

firstname.lastname@1st-alcester.org.uk

Please refer to the email settings page for details on how to get you email program working with the email system.

If you don't have a login to the system and would like a email address, please email austin.tovey@1st-alcester.org.uk using your existing/personal email account to arrange to have one set up.

Email account settings:

Setting up an additional email account in Outlook or Outlook express is easy, just follow the steps below:

Example settings:

1	Your Name :		Joe User
2	Email Address :		joe.user@1st-alcester.org.uk
3	User Name :		firstname.lastname@1st-alcester.org.uk your username is the same as your email address.
4	Password :		Given to you by the administrator.
5	Logon with SPA :		The email server will not let you login without using SPA, so make sure you tick it!
6	Incoming server :		pop3.1st-alcester.org.uk or mail.1st-alcester.org.uk
7	Outgoing server :		mail.1st-alcester.org.uk
8	More Settings :		You can use the 'More settings' button to configure options like leaving email on the server for X days.

The rules:

• To void SPAM and viruses, please don't use your email address when registering for things on the internet, use your own personal address.
• This is a free system, please don't abuse it!
• Virus policy: Our server will strip off any potentially harmful attachments received, this is not anti virus but 99.9% of Viruses are carried in these types of attachments. A List of attachment type are listed below. You will be notified by the server when the system has confiscated one of you files.
  If you need to receive one of the attachments listed below, then ask the sending to ZIP the attachment. This will bypass the servers attachment filter. Remember you are responsible for what you open! If in doubt, DON'T open it.

Troubleshooting:

• Make sure you are using SPA (Secure Password Authentication) in the email account setting page.
• Your account may be locked, this could be caused by two different computers trying to logon to your account at the same time, or the administrator had locked your mailbox because its too full.
• The incoming email server should be pop3.1st-alcester.org.uk or mail.1st-alcester.org.uk
• Any alerts sent by the membership system will be sent to your 1st-alcester.org.uk address, not your personal account, this is for security.
• If you can't send email make sure you have ticked 'My outbound email server requires authentication' This might be under the 'more settings' button depending on your email program.
• Your 1st-alcester.org.uk email address should be in addition to your own personal one.
• There is no real technical support for this service. You can try your luck with andrew.wasley@1st-alcester.org.uk or austin.tovey@1st-alcester.org.uk

Tips and tricks:

• Use Microsoft Outlook 2003 if you can as this has great Anti Spam capabilities, make sure you have the latest anti spam patch from Microsoft.
• Set up a rule in outlook so you can distinguish between personal email and messages from you 1st-alcester account.
• Run Windows Update on a regular basis to ensure you have all the latest bug fixes for Windows.
• Make sure you have some find of anti spy ware installed on you computer. I use SpyBot & Search and Destroy.
• Make sure you have adequate anti virus software installed and set to scan incoming email messages.
